Nashville VOAD organizing targeted canvass of neighborhoods affected by March flood

The Nashville VOAD (Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster) is organizing a targeted canvass of neighborhoods affected by the March flood.

What is this event’s purpose?

We know there are still households that were affected by the March flooding but have not reached out for assistance. We want survivors to know that local assistance remains available through the Nashville VOAD’s Long-Term Recovery Group and we can help with clean up, rebuilding, and other recovery needs. Flood recovery support can be requested 24/7 here.

What will canvassers ask people?

If a person is interested in learning more about available assistance, they will be asked a few basic questions so that the case management team can contact the survivor following the visit. Questions include: Name, address, primary language, phone number, email, current needs (i.e., financial assistance, food & nutrition, housing, repairs, etc.).

Will my privacy be protected?

We want to stress that any information shared with the volunteer canvassers is confidential and will not be shared with any agency outside the March 2021 Flood Long-Term Recovery Group. This information remains local and is not shared with local, state or national government or nonprofit agencies not specifically assisting with recovery efforts.

What are the days/times/locations of the canvass?

Our volunteer canvassers will be in:

  • Oct. 24 from 2-4pm: Haywood Acres, Kenilworth Estates, Elysian Fields, Radnor Towers, Humber Dr., Glencliff, Malvin Heights area

  • Nov 12 from 4-6pm: Bellevue, West Meade, Belle Meade, The Nations, Urbandale Nations, Hillsboro West End, and Castridge area
  • Nov 15 from 4-6pm: McMurray, Brentwood Meadows, Crieve Hall, Binkley, Fairlane Park, Edmondson Pike area
  • Nov 16 from 4-6pm: Cayce Homes, Inglewood area

How will you know the volunteers are official canvassers?

On Oct. 24, canvassers will be covering a more condensed area so all volunteers will be walking. On Nov 12, 15, and 16 our volunteers will be canvassing much larger areas so may arrive by car or on foot.

Please know that all volunteers participating in this canvassing will be wearing bright yellow Hands On Nashville T-Shirts so that you can easily identify them and why they are visiting you.
